Every year, hundreds of thousands of dogs enter shelters in unimaginable conditions. Victims of abuse and neglect, they are often filthy, matted, and almost unrecognizable as being dogs.
Imagine going to a job interview, or on a first date, smelly and covered in dirt. That’s what it’s like for millions of shelter pets across the country who are waiting to get adopted. Of the 6.5 million dogs that enter shelters each year, a majority of them have never been groomed. Instead of stealing hearts, potential adopters are turned off.
As part of the Dirty Dogs contest in partnership with Wahl Pets, we're teaming up with Greater Good Charities to ensure that shelters have what they need to give deserving dogs all the grooming care they need to wow adopters.

Foxy
Foxy was discovered living under a trailer park mobile home in Marshfield, WI. Humane officers contacted Foxy's owners and persuaded them to surrender the pup to the shelter. As soon as she arrived, she was promptly pampered with a luxurious grooming and bath.
Madeline
Madeline was found as a stray in deplorable condition. She suffered from an extreme case of mange, causing her significant pain. Rescuers from her shelter in Whitestone, NY, healed her wounds and provided her with love and care she had never known.
Fluffy
Fluffy was abandoned in an apartment in Allentown, PA, and discovered in deplorable condition. She was filthy and matted when the police brought her into the shelter. A full groom revealed her to be a beautiful one-eyed girl with a permanently outstretched tongue.
